Juan Carlos is a founding partner of AtZ.  He leads the Origination and Distribution teams. He has over 25 years of investment banking experience focused on energy and infrastructure, having worked for leading firms like Enron, Barclays Capital, BNP Paribas, and AtZ Investment Partners. His expertise spans M&A, debt arranging, advisory, asset management, and restructuring across a wide range of transactions in Europe, Latin America, and the USA.

His financial close experience in infrastructure includes PPPs, toll roads, ports, parking facilities, tramways, hospitals, waste management, water projects, and more. Notable transactions include Terminal de Contenedores de Barcelona (TCB), Hospital de Móstoles (the first hospital financed with medical service risk in Spain), the spin-off of SABA, Madrileña Red de Gas, Redexis, and Gas Storage Castor (the first project bond in Europe).

In the energy sector, Juan Carlos has worked on conventional power, CSP, PV, hydro, wind, and biomass projects, utilizing Feed-in-Tariffs, PPAs, and/or merchant revenues. Significant transactions include Andasol (the first CSP financed in Europe), La Trinidad (the first merchant deal in Mexico), and the Curtis Biomass Plant (IJ Global Deal of the Year in 2018).

Juan Carlos is a speaker at seminars and forums, promoting discussions on liquidity, financing, and bankability in several countries. He holds a Juris Doctor degree from Universidad Católica (Quito, Ecuador) and an MBA from IESE Business School (Barcelona, Spain). He is an Ecuadorian and British national.
